Why I want myself to travel the way I want to!
But everybody travels the way they want to.
Isn’t that so obvious?
I don’t think so!
Think about how you decide to travel? Or let’s think about how usually we’re bound to think about traveling in general?
That trek. That waterfall. That trail. That beach. That mountain. That safari.
How do you find out about the place you wish to visit?
From the ads we see. From the vlogs we watch. The people we’re surrounded by who have been through. The billboards we’re exposed to.
Most importantly — what ‘cool’ place we’ve been served to.
To sound ‘interesting’ during the conversation about traveling. The place which is so cool in the lens of social media. In the lens of 20’s. (wait why are you thinking of Goa… hahaha see how easy it is to get this).
The point being we rarely make efforts into finding the place we wish to travel to. By efforts I don’t mean itinerary, managing finances, packing bags, or buying accessories. By efforts, I mean thinking about why I wish to travel to this place.
And what actually traveling is for me?
Is it always traveling to places outside the city? The state? The country? (or the world, if you’re like Elon).
Sometimes you travel to take some days off.
Sometimes you travel to go on a particular trek.
Sometimes you travel to hang out with friends.
Sometimes you travel for no reason.
Consciously or subconsciously — traveling is 80% WHY you’re traveling and 20% planning and executing the plan.
Once you’re clear, what comes next is what is there to travel?
Would you rather be in the rat race of ticking off the maximum number of locations in a day, or would it be okay to miss 5 places out of 8 but will wisely spend time at only 1–2 locations?
Would you rather be desperate enough to tick off all 7 wonders of the world, or would it be okay to miss all those wonders but would travel to places where you want to?
Would you rather always be waiting for at least a week to go traveling to a particular place or, would you be okay to even wander a random place for a day or two impromptu?
In the personal essay on ‘Why I want myself to travel the way I want to’ if I’d ask the above questions to myself, I often would end up with the latter one as the answer.
What about you?
