Makar Sankranti went by a few days back. But I remember this song for a very different reason.

I’d quote it as: A Story Of Innocence.

It was the night before Makar Sankranti.

My brother and I were tying kite knots in the drawing room.

“Ooli Ooli jaye, ooli ooli jaye” our neighbor’s 3 years old kid was singing loudly and bouncing while taking the stairs with his father.

I was able to hear his voice and chu-chu shoes from 3 rooms away.

“Arre Udi udi jaye, udi udi jaye dil ki patang …” his father joined his son.

The cutest father-son duo you can imagine.

I then began to feel their voices getting closer to us.

The father added, “Do dil ude, do dil ude, unche aasmaano mein jude.”

“Arre Oolii ooli jaye ooli jaye, dil ki patang dekho ooli ooli jaye”.

“Beta, tumeh pata hai, ye ‘Udi Udi jaye’ gaana kisne gaya hai?”

“Haann… papa ne!”, the boy replied confidently.
